Hour Detroit Magazine is recognizing some of Detroit‘s most well-dressed public figures in its annual best dressed list for its November issue. To add to the excitement, the magazine will celebrate its winners by hosting a party of fashion and live entertainment.
Every year, Hour Detroit Magazine honors a list of prominent Detroit business professionals and individuals that manage to keep effortlessly stylish throughout their day-to-day careers in the Motor City.
This year, the list of the “Best Dressed” includes (but is not limited to): Laura Hughes, Program Officer at Skillman Foundation; Torii Hunter, Detroit Tigers Right Fielder; Suzanne Shank, President/CEO of Siebert Brandford Shank & Co. LLC; and Cornell Batie, CFO at Mack Avenue Records and executive vice president of Detroit International Jazz Festival.
With a list as impressive as this one, it’s completely necessary to come dressed to precision to Hour Detroit’s “Best Dressed” Celebration. The “Best Dressed” event is the perfect opportunity (and excuse!) to pull out all the stops for one of the most fashionable evenings in Detroit.
The key to putting together the ideal ensemble is staying true to individual style and picking items that make a statement about that personal style. Like any other event, it is always helpful to look to the season’s biggest trends for inspiration when getting dressed up.
Statement outerwear is a major fashion trend for autumn. Therefore, it would be a great idea to wear some outerwear that’s not only warm, but is also fiercely stylish for this chic event of fashion professionals.
A cape, for example, is dramatic and a unique piece of outerwear that is sure to make an impact for the evening’s fashion scene. It’s also less cumbersome than a heavy coat, so it can easily be draped off the arm as a style piece while mingling through the event.
Shoes are equally important to a best dressed outfit. After all, an amazing pair of heels or pumps is guaranteed to turn heads and attract fashion admirers. Shoes that feature bold colors and interesting patterns or textures are trending and are interesting.
Think velvet, lace, tweed, and patent leather. These textures and patterns can instantly add a wow-factor to any pair of shoes.
For the attire, a simple or embellished cocktail dress would be a classic choice to wear. However, it is encouraged to be a bit daring and different as well. For instance, layering is another intriguing way to dress it up.
A brightly-colored blouse under a basic, yet well-fitted blazer and skirt or pants would look classic and fashionable. Add some major statement jewelry and a patterned stocking to create a complete head-to-toe look that stands outs from the crowd.
Lastly, accessorize the look wisely with the right pieces. Select eye-catching jewelry, a show-stopping handbag, and beautiful make-up to pull the look together. Be prepared to find the right shade of lipstick or pull out that exceptional handbag from the closet to create the ultimate style.
Remember the idea behind picking a best dressed look is embracing personal style and pairing it with the most important accessory: confidence. Choose your attire wisely and be true to what makes you feel most fashionable and comfortable. Most of all, have fun in whatever you choose to wear.
Hour Detroit’s “Best Dressed” Celebration will be held Wednesday, November 13 from 6pm to 9pm at The Fillmore Detroit. There will be a fashion show by Neiman Marcus and live entertainment will be provided by Jared Sykes, DJ Prevu, and Tony Roko. The Neiman Marcus fashion show will begin at 8pm.
